Description
Dual-lateral logging uses the classical 9-electrode structure to obtain two resistivity logs with different investigation depths: deep lateral and shallow lateral. The principle is that the alternating current emitted by the central main electrode A₀ passes through the formation and returns to the surface electrode (deep resistivity) or to the electrodes A₂ and A₂′ on the probe (shallow lateral). Compensating currents emitted by the guard-electrode pairs A₁ and A₁′ keep the monitor electrodes M₁, M₂ and M₁′, M₂′ at the same electric potential. These equipotential surfaces shape the measuring current into a disc of 2-ft thickness that penetrates deep into the well.
Through careful design, a scientific electrode-array distribution, and advanced modular circuits, it achieves accurate measurement and stable operation.
It is currently widely used in coalfield, coal-bed methane (CBM), shale gas, hydrology, and radioactive uranium deposits, and is one of the mandatory measurement parameters for CBM and shale gas.
